Can you tell me more about Tungsten Carbide?
Tungsten alone, is an alloy that has been known and used for years; the manufacturing industry uses tungsten to make tools and machinery. But tungsten was introduced to the jewelry industry only a few years ago. It's popularity has sky rocketed, making tungsten wedding bands one of the hottest trends in the jewelry market today!

The alloy tungsten alone is a very dense metal and is subject to scratch like any other metal. But when tungsten is combined with carbon alloys at an amazing 6,000 degrees Fahrenheit, Tungsten Carbide (TC) is formed- the hardest metal known. Tungsten Carbide is a virtually indestructible and scratch-resistant metal that will guarantee to keep it's shine for as long as your commitment to each other.

You've read about the PROs of purchasing a tungsten carbide rings, but here is what most websites or jewelers won't tell you. The CONs of Tungsten Carbide jewelry. (Only our website will make you comfortable about this Con). Because of the extreme hardness of tungsten carbide, our rings cannot be resized or altered after it's final shape and form. Rest assured, should your customer's finger fluctuate in size over the years, our Lifetime Warranty will replace your ring for a new size at any time. See our Lifetime Warranty page for more information.

Frequently Asked Questions About Superior Wedding Rings (FAQs)
1. Do your Tungsten rings contain the alloy "cobalt"?
NO. Beware of competitor's selling tungsten bands with the alloy tungsten. Cobalt allows for easier production, but over time it reacts to the natural oils in your skin, causing oxidation that will change the color of the metal. Tungsten rings containing cobalt are NOT virtually scratch resistant.

2. Is it possible to scratch a tungsten carbide ring?
YES. Tungsten carbide bands are virtually scratch resistant; however, they can be scratched under extreme pressures, such as with diamond composite or with corundum. Although it is highly unlikely that your piece will obtain any scratches or blemishes, this event will be covered by our Lifetime Warranty.

3. What about emergency removal of a Tungsten Carbide band?
Standard ring cutters are not powerful enough to cut through a tungsten carbide ring. We have contacted a few of our local hospitals, and all have the means to remove a tungsten carbide ring. This process can also be done at home. Use grip-like locking pliers and clamp onto your ring and squeeze together. Continue this process in different places of your ring until you hear a crack. Continue to clamp and the ring will break into pieces.

4. How does tungsten compare to other metals, such as titanium?
Tungsten is approximately 10x harder than 18k gold, and 4x harder than titanium. A tungsten carbide ring will give you more "bang for you buck". Your ring is guaranteed to keep it's durability and shine forever with no upkeep, unlike 18k gold and platinum that will require frequent rhodium plating.

5. I would like to purchase a Gold Wedding Ring - which carat should I choose?
Higher carats have a higher percentage of gold, and are thus more pure. Typically it is more prestigous to choose a higher carat such as 18K. However, the higher the carat (thus, the purer the gold), the softer your band will be. A softer band means it will be more susceptible to scratching and wear sooner. The higher carat wedding bands do not tarnish as easily though. Here at Superior Wedding Rings, we suggest a happy medium- 14K gold. This is the most popular choice when buying gold, but as always, it really boils down to personal preference. If you have questions, please call our Customer Service Department at 1.916.380.9040, and we will be happy to assist you in your choice.

18K Gold Wedding Rings - (75% gold and 25% alloy) 18K gold is the softest and most pure gold of these three karat golds. It is the most expensive choice due to the high content of gold. 18K gold is a popular choice in diamond wedding rings. It produces a luxurious deep yellow color and is the most resistant to tarnishing. Because 18K is the softest band, it will show wear sooner than the 14K and 10K bands, which are harder. However, they are still the favored choice.

14K Gold Wedding Rings - (58.3% gold and 41.7% alloy) 14K gold is the preffered choice of most of our customers. We consider it to be the happy medium of these three karats. It has the stregnth that is needed in a wedding band, yet it is still resistant to tarnishing. The majority of all wedding rings are made with 14K gold, and is by far the preffered choice of jewelers. Because we know that everyone has a personal preference, we like to give you the choice!

10K Gold Wedding Rings - (41.7% gold and 58.3% alloy) For those who would like to purchase a gold wedding ring, but find the 14K and 18K to be too expensive for their budget, the 10K is a great choice. 10K gold rings are the most affordable of the three karats. It is the hardest of the three bands, although there is much debate as to whether 10K or 14K gold wears longer. 10K gold is a paler yellow than the 18K gold for example. This is often another considering factor for buyers that do not like the rich luxurious yellow that you will find in an 18K gold. 10K gold is more subtle.
